Activities of Exploration
Exploration is one of the activities in the mining world, and is the main job of a geologist.
Exploration ranks second in the systematics of world mining.
Which order of sequence is as follows:
1. Prospecting
2. Exploration
3. Exploitation
4. Transportation and Sales
5. Processing and Refining
6. Reclamation activities (after mining activities)
In this post we will only discuss the second point, which is about exploration.
Exploration is the activity to search of a natural resource, whether it is the form of energy (oil, gas, coal, geothermal), minerals (diamonds, gold, silver, nickel, tin, etc.), and the minerals of industry, (Limestone, gypsum, talc, etc.) .
Exploration is the continued activity of the public inquiry activities / prospecting.
Stages of exploration
There are three stages in the exploration, namely:
1. Preliminary Exploration
Preliminary exploration an early stage of exploration, where the collection of information at this stage, will be made the basis for the next phase of exploration.
Types of activities performed on this stage form of the survey (Looking outcrop), mapping (geological mapping, and other basic map-making), and geochemical investigations.
2. Advanced Exploration
Advanced Exploration is an exploration activity after preliminary exploration.
At this stage, exploration activities began to focus on a specific points, especially those considered prospects.
The main target of this phase is to determine the distribution of resources as a whole and certainly on the surface of the earth.
At this stage, a quantitative estimation of resources can be done, the type of resource measure.
3. Exploration Details
Exploration detail is the final stage of its exploration activities.
This activity aims to determine the number and distribution of resources under the earth's surface.
This type of activity is drilling.
Where drilling is done by a regular pattern, with a distance of 25-50 m between one drill point with another drill point.
Pattern drilling and spacing drill point somewhere, usually are different from pole drilling and spacing between drill point elsewhere.
this is because every place has particularly different criteria.
things that need to be taken into consideration in determining the pattern and distance antr drilling drill point in the drilling activities are:
- The state of Morphology
- Geological Structure
- And dip (Sedimentary Rock).
Results of exploration activities can be used to determine the economic value of a natural resource, determine mining system, and to determine the life of the mine.
